- Eventually I made my way out to Jaxon on the baler.I jumped up to get in the tractor and waited; he just stared at me for what seemed like eons just gawking, eyes glazed over and tongue tied.“What?” I asked,“Get in!”For a long moment, silence, until he awkwardly stammered,“Come here, I wanna show you something cool.”I was confused but I followed him as he disappeared behind the tractor, just waiting for him to show me some poor mangled creature that had fallen victim to the haying machinery.As I turned the corner he was suddenly in front of me on the ground of all places.In the shadow of the baler I couldn’t tell what he was doing.Then, like a punch in the face it all made sense.My eyes fell on the black velvet box he held in his hand, the most beautiful glimmering diamond ring, my handsome cowboy down on one knee more nervous facing me and the question he was about to ask than he’d ever been in front of the biggest, meanest mama cow.Soon after I’d said yes, we were both laughing.I had tortured that poor boy all afternoon out there, sweating bullets over much more than the July heat in a sauna of a tractor cab.Suddenly I was glad to drop everything and bale hay with my fiancé!
